Trapped
In Exodus chapter fourteen, we find the Israelites trapped against the Red Sea. Pharaoh is pursuing them with all of his horsemen, chariots, and army. How would you feel trapped against the Red Sea with nowhere to go, and the ruler of the nation came after you with all of his battle tanks and army? The Israelites run to Moses and ask, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness…?” I have felt like the Israelites more times than I want to admit. I do what God calls me to do but find myself trapped against the proverbial Red Sea with no way out and no help in sight. How about you? God gives a promise to the Israelites through Moses in verse thirteen. “Fear not, stand firm and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today.” When Pharaoh’s army pursues, we need to stand still and let the LORD work.
Yet, some of us do not want rescuing. We become wounded and move from the Red Sea to a safe spot in the wilderness. We exist in the wasteland alive and safe, hidden from the world. We are frightened to move forward because of our past. Yet look at what God tells us through the prophet Isaiah. In chapter forty-three, verse nineteen, Isaiah writes, “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” When we are against the Red Sea, we need to trust God. The same is true when we exist in the wilderness. We must allow Him to rescue us and help us move forward. His promise has never changed. I am the Lord your God the Holy One of Israel there is nothing I cannot do.
