“The LORD’s loving kindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22–23
I’ve had mornings when I didn’t want to get out of bed. You know the kind—when yesterday’s burdens follow you like a shadow and the weight of life makes it hard to even pray. But something about these verses in Lamentations stops me in my tracks and lifts my eyes. It’s not just poetic—it’s personal.
Let’s start with that name: LORD. In the Bible, when you see LORD in all capital letters, it’s not just a title—it’s God’s personal name, Yahweh. This isn’t a distant, far-off God. This is the I AM—the same God who spoke to Moses through the burning bush, the God who makes covenants and keeps them, who sees us, hears us, and walks with us. So, when the LORD says something, you can trust it’s true, and you can trust it’s for you.
Now look at the verse: “The LORD’s loving kindnesses indeed never cease.” That word—never—stopped me. I had to ask myself, What does ‘never’ really mean? In a world where people walk away, promises are broken, and love often depends on behavior, ‘never’ means something radical. It means not once. Always. No exceptions. No expiration date. That hit me deep. God’s love doesn’t run out. Even on the days when I feel like I’ve messed up too badly or when my faith feels weak, His love stays put. His compassions “never fail.” They don’t stumble. They don’t fizzle out. They don’t take a day off.
Then comes verse 23: “They are new every morning.” Not once a week. Not when I get it all right. It means every morning. Today. It means tomorrow. It means the morning after a night of regret, or a day full of doubts. God isn’t recycling leftover mercy. He’s giving you something fresh—something you didn’t use up yesterday. It’s a brand-new portion of love and compassion, tailored for this very day.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve needed that reminder. When I’ve felt ashamed, tired, or afraid, I’ve found hope in knowing His faithfulness is great, not small, not inconsistent. Great. God doesn’t just give enough; He gives generously, faithfully, again and again. When the day feels heavy, let these words sink in: The LORD, your God, is faithful. His love for you will never end. And no matter how yesterday went, today’s mercy is fresh, ready, and waiting. Because He promised, and you can count on that.
