Have you ever felt unprepared for something that suddenly happened in your life? Maybe it was a job interview, a test, a health crisis, or a relationship challenge. Whatever it was, you wished you had more time, more resources, more wisdom, or more courage to face it. You may have wondered, “Why did this happen to me? Why wasn’t I ready for it?” But have you also noticed that some things that you thought were random, pointless, or even painful, later turned out to be essential, meaningful, or even enjoyable? Maybe it was a job loss that led you to a better career path, a rejection that helped you grow in resilience, a mistake that taught you a valuable lesson, or a delay that saved you from a disaster. You may have thought, “Why did this happen to me? Why wasn’t I spared from it?”
The truth is, God prepares us not only for what we expect but also for what we don’t expect. He knows what we need when we need it, and how we need it. He doesn’t waste any experience, emotion, or any opportunity to shape us into the persons He created us to be. He uses everything for our good and His glory, even if we don’t understand it at the time. Exodus 3:17 is a good example of God’s preparations for His people. He told Moses, “I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites—a land flowing with milk and honey.” God didn’t just rescue the Israelites from slavery but also prepared a new home for them. He didn’t just deliver them from their past but also provided for their future. He didn’t just give them a promise, but also a plan. In the same way, God prepares us for our own promised land. He doesn’t just save us from sin but also gives us a new identity, a new purpose, and a new destiny. He doesn’t just forgive us, but also empowers us to forgive others. He doesn’t just fill us with His Spirit but also equips us with His gifts. He doesn’t just call us, but also leads us step by step, day by day, moment by moment.
The next time you face something unexpected, remember that God has prepared you for it and that He has also prepared it for you. You may not know why or how, but you can trust that He is with you, in you, and for you. You can also find some humor in the situation, knowing that God has a sense of humor too. After all, He created puns, didn’t He?
