Have you ever been rejected by a group or community that you wanted to be a part of? Maybe you didn’t fit in with their standards or culture, or maybe you just didn’t have the right clothes or accessories. Whatever the reason, it can be painful and discouraging to feel excluded.
We get a picture of the humanity of Jesus in John 4. He and his disciples have been walking all day. They stop in Samaria at a well. While his disciples go into town to get food, he sits by the well to rest. A woman comes to the well. Coming in the middle of the day seems to insinuate that she wanted to avoid the other women of the village. Jesus is thirsty and asks her for a drink. Although Jesus had to have been thirsty after hours of walking on that dusty road, He does something strange: He tells her that she should be asking Him for a drink.
Have you ever experienced a day when it felt like everything was going wrong? Like a relentless storm, challenges kept coming your way, one after another. It appears life was throwing car parts at you, and no matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t catch a brake. In those moments, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, discouraged, and even tempted to give up. However, as followers of Christ, we have a source of unwavering strength and hope—the Lord our God.
Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes it feels like everything is falling apart. But the good news is that God is always there for us, even when we don’t feel it.

There are times when God will call us to walk through very dangerous circumstances. The waters seem to rise on either side, and we face the possibility of destruction. Yet we hear His assurance come, tender and full of mercy, “As you walk through the waters I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you…” (Isaiah 43:2).
