Building a house of Wisdom

By wisdom, a house is built, Psalm 24:3a

I had a dream a few nights ago. In it, I had gathered all the materials that I needed to build the house of my dreams. I carefully placed the materials on an explosive charge and detonated them. All of the pieces flew into the air and then settled down into the hole left by the explosion. When the dust cleared, I had my dream home! Everything was perfect. The basement had all the rooms I needed and the two stores on top of it were exactly what I always wanted. Then I woke up to the harsh realization that my dream home could only be built one piece at a time.

It takes time to build a house because typically houses are built one piece at a time. Our spiritual growth in wisdom occurs through the same process. We gain wisdom one day, one event, one scripture at a time as I live out my life. Gaining wisdom is hard work and it is sometimes painful (like hitting my finger with a hammer while driving a nail). I will continue to build my house of wisdom until the day the LORD embraces me and says, “Well done my good and faithful servant…enter into the joy of your master.” (Matthew 25:21)
